Former pet groomer sentenced in Forsyth County dog death case

A woman accused of beating a dog to death at her pet grooming business in Forsyth County was convicted of animal cruelty charges Thursday.

Michelle Louise Root, 42, was sentenced to three years in prison and two year probation following prison time, according to Channel 2. She also cannot work with or own animals during that time.

Meko, a dog in Root's care at Paw'sh Paws in Cumming, died at an animal hospital in October 2017 after the groomer kicked, dragged and choked him. She was charged with one count of felony animal cruelty in that case.

Root was also found not guilty in a different case involving the 2016 death of another dog, Little Boy, the television station reported.

Following Meko's death, more than 30 pet owners spoke up about the treatment of their pets under Root's care.
