Forsyth County dog groomer accused of killing pet she was grooming

The owner of a pet grooming store in Cumming is facing charges for allegedly killing a dog she was grooming last week.

Michelle Louise Root, 41, of Gainesville has posted a $5,630 bond on a felony animal cruelty charge, said Deputy Chief Aletha Barrett with the Cumming Police Department.

Root, owner of Paw'sh Paws Grooming and Pet Spa on Lake Center Parkway, was allegedly grooming the dog, Meko, on Oct. 7 around 4 p.m. when she dragged it across the floor, choked it with a leash and kicked the dog into a door.

"There's some very gruesome details, but she's alleged to have choked the animal, ultimately leading to the death of the animal," said Barrett in a phone interview with AccessWDUN.

Root was arrested Wednesday.
