CLARKESVILLE — Almost a week after Tropical Storm Irma roared across North Georgia, Habersham Electric Membership Corp. is wrapping up restoration of power.
“HEMC had 461 meters out as of 6:30 a.m.,” HEMC spokeswoman Nicole Dover said Monday. “Restoration efforts will continue today. All should be restored today, with the exception of members who need to make repairs to their meter base or have significant damage to their home.”
HEMC serves members in Habersham, Hall, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens and White counties.
The cooperative experienced more than 250 broken poles in its service area.
Crews cut fallen trees on Tray Mountain for four hours Sunday just to reach a remote area with broken poles, Dover said. After reaching the area, it takes roughly four hours to replace each broken pole.
HEMC members still experiencing a power outage should continue to report their outage by phone at (706) 754-2114, (706) 865-4362 or (800) 640-6812; or through the website at www.habershamemc.com.
All Georgia Power Co. customers in Banks, Habersham and White counties who could safely receive service had their power restored by 1 p.m. Sunday.
