Fair St. school again the 'epicenter' of summer programs

By AccessWDUN staff

Each year Fair Street International Academy houses a myriad of summer programs, where hundreds of students pass through the school's doors each day. Children come to Fair Street during the summer months to learn and have fun in programs offered by the Boys and Girls Club and the Gainesville City School System Migrant program.

The RISE summer program is also offered at Fair Street, consisting of approximately 150 students. With assistance from local community partners, this program helps children improve their academic performance and their social interactions, according to a posting in a recent school system newsletter. Activities focus on specialized areas such as music to teach children to develop greater cognitive skills and boost creativity and science education to stimulate children's innate curiosity of the world.

Julio Cabanas, Assistant Principal at Fair Street, says he sees the many benefits of the programs and knows how deeply the programs directly impact the children as well as the Fair Street community.

"We are very proud of the accomplishments of the students," he said.  "And we look forward to having these programs housed at Fair Street for many more years to come!"
