Three adults and two children had to be rescued from a portion of the Chattahoochee River in Gwinnett County Monday night after one member of their party began to feel sick.
According to a release from Gwinnett County Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge, the father began to feel weak and dizzy while the group was floating down the river on tethered intertubes in between Medlock Bridge and East Jones Bridge. They were headed to East Jones Bridge Park and had been on the river for several hours when the father fell ill.
Both Gwinnett County and Johns Creek Fire and their Swiftwater Rescue teams responded and were able to locate the family. The Johns Creek boat met the group and retrieved the sick man, who was taken to shore at Medlock Bridge Park to meet paramedics, according to Rutledge.
The other family members, who were not ill or injured, were given a courtesy ride back to East Jones Bridge Park.
There was no water generation from Buford Dam Monday.
Rutledge encouraged rivergoers to stay safe and plan their trips down the river, stay alert and know where you are at all times, always wear a life jack and call for help if you need it.
