A Commerce woman has sued the Publix grocery store chain, alleging that the company is to blame for her husband's death at a Gwinnett County store in 2015.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that Mansur Blount was a technician who worked on vent hoods. He was cleaning a hood at a Publix store in Dacula, according to the newspaper report. To reach the hood, Blount apparently stood on a metal cover that was protecting a deep fryer filled with hot oil. The fryer cover collapsed and Blount's left leg plunged into the hot oil.
He was taken to Grady Hospital in Atlanta with severe burns, where he died on July 5, 2016, eight days after the accident at the store.
According to the AJC, Blount’s widow, Chrissie McGee Blount, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Publix, asking for “the full value of the life of Mansur Blount,” attorney’s fees and court costs.
