Gwinnett mother runs over, kills adult son

By AccessWDUN Staff

A 29-year-old man was killed in Gwinnett County Sunday night when his mother accidentally hit him with a vehicle before crashing into a house.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said the accident happened around 11:15 p.m. at a residence on Highpoint Court in Snellville. Officers said the mother, 64-year-old Rita Watson, and her son, Rasha Watson, were in the process of moving into the rental home when the accident occurred.

Investigators said Rita Watson was the driver of a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado; the vehicle was pulling an attached trailer. For reasons that are unknown at this time, Rita Watson lost control of the vehicle and traveled forward on a downhill grade. Investigators said Rashad Watson was standing between the vehicle and the rental building. He was unable to move out of the way of the vehicle and was struck.

Rashad Watson was taken to Eastside Medical Center in Snellville where he died from his injuries.

Investigators said after the vehicle struck the victim it also struck the building, a rental property with four homes. No one inside the other units was injured, but because the building was damaged, all residents were temporarily relocated.

No charges have been filed in the incident.
