Amazon begins job recruitment effort for new Jefferson distribution center

By B.J. Williams
Amazon plans to open a new distribution center in Jackson County on August 1, and the company is ready to find workers to staff the new facility.

Amazon - which touts itself as the world's largest retailer - plans to recruit up to 1,000 warehouse workers for the new distribution center in Jefferson.

The company made the announcement that it would open the new facility on June 1.

The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) is assisting with recruitment efforts on Monday, June 12 and Tuesday, June 13 at the GDOL career centers in Gainesville and Athens. The recruitments will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. The Athens Career Center is located at 150 Evelyn C. Neely Drive, and the Gainesville Career Center is located at 2756 Atlanta Highway. Representatives of the employer will be on-site at both locations to discuss employment opportunities with the company and explain the complete hiring process.

A press release from GDOL said applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED). They also must be available to work four, 10-hour shifts per week and climb at least 45 feet.

The employer encourages applicants with no work history to apply.

Salaries will begin at $11 an hour and overtime is available. The company will offer employer-provided benefits.

For more information about the jobs, or to apply online, visit employgeorgia.com to create an account and upload, or prepare, a resume. Having an Employ Georgia account expedites the interview process, and the employer encourages a completed application prior to attending the event.

For more information about the recruitments, contact the GDOL’s Athens Career Center at (706) 583-2550 or the GDOL’s Gainesville Career Center at (770) 535-5484. The career centers are open to serve the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Additional recruitments will be held in the future. Those who are interested should monitor the Upcoming Events section on the GDOL’s website at dol.georgia.gov.
