LISTEN: UNG works with local high schools to help low-income students prepare for college

By Afternoon News Wrap

The University of North Georgia has been awarded a total of $2.6 million from the U.S. Department of Education’s "Upward Bound" program and will partner with Johnson and Gilmer County High Schools.

The funding will allow UNG to increase  access to post-secondary education for economically disadvantaged households in the two high schools located closest to the UNG Gainesville and Blue Ridge campuses. Through Upward Bound, UNG will provide mentoring, parent engagement, state assessment preparation, career exploration, cultural experiences, and college visits to each high school participant of the program.
