Trump nullifies rule affecting Gainesville-Hall traffic planning group

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

President Trump has voided an Obama era rule that would have resulted in possible consolidation of the Gainesville-Hall traffic planning agency with the Atlanta Regional Commission.

Sam Baker, Senior Transportation Planner for the Gainesville-Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization wrote in an email Friday "You may recall that the U.S. Department of Transportation enacted rules last year which, when implemented, would result in possible consolidation of the Gainesville-Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization with the Atlanta Regional Commission, change our planning area boundary, and require us to develop a joint transportation plan and transportation project list with Atlanta.  We have been informed today that President Trump has nullified this rule."

Baker went on to thank "all the local governments and citizens" who took the time and effort to submit comments regarding this rule to the federal government.
