'Chicopee Section' of Highlands to Islands Trail opening later this month

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
The newest section of the Highlands to Islands Trail (formerly known as the Central Hall Multi-Use Trail) is scheduled to open in two weeks.

The "Chicopee Section" of the trail, which stretches 2.8 miles from Palmour Drive to the Georgia Department of Labor office in Chicopee, will officially open Saturday, April 23, with a 1:30 ceremony near Chicopee Woods Baptist Church.  A 5K race and various other activities are also being planned by the Highlands to Islands Trail Alliance, a sub-group of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce's Vision 2030 Greenspace Committee.

The concrete trail is 11 feet wide with benches and trash bins. The $2.3 million project is being funded by federal funds and Hall County SPLOST revenue.
