Two meetings are planned this week at which the public is invited to weigh-in on an updated list of proposed Gainesville/Hall Country transportation projects.
They will be hosted by the Gainesville Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization which over a one-year period conducted two online surveys regarding transportation needs in Jackson County and Gainesville/Hall County.
"We are very pleased with the results," GHMPO officials said in a statement on the group's website. "The two surveys combined had 1,445 unique participants who provided 18,180 responses to survey questions and provided an additional 1,290 general comments. The citizen input that we received will help continue to shape the two transportation plans."
One of this week's open houses dealing with the Gainesville/Hall projects will be held at the Blackshear Place Library Aug. 19 at 5:30. The other will be Aug. 20 at the North Hall Community Center, also at 5:30. Each is scheduled to last two hours.
As part of the federally-required update of regional transportation plans, the GHMPO is working on a financial projection of anticipated funding over the next 30 years through the year 2050 for roadway, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian improvements. Based on this projection, the group plans to develop a "financially constrained" list of transportation projects in consultation with our local jurisdictions and citizen input. That list is expected to be completed by Sept. 30.
