Citing high costs, White County officials delay action on three bridge projects

By Dean Dyer WRWH Radio
The White County Board of Commissioners approved one road project Monday, but want to examine other projects before proceeding.

Commissioners approved a long-awaited project that calls for base and paving of Carolina Springs Road, awarding the project to Square Deal Construction for $478,891.

Commissioners decided to table local maintenance improvement projects on three bridges in the county because the bids received on these projects came in three times the projected cost, saying they want to take a closer look at the contracts to see why the cost estimates are so high.

Commission Chairman Travis Turner said commissioners hope to bring the bridge projects back for a vote in the next 30 days.
