Soccer: East Hall, Chestatee boys each advance on otherwise tough night for area teams

It has not been an easy start to the postseason so far for northeast Georgia soccer. Of 22 teams that have so far played, just four have claimed victory.

But that won't dampen the East Hall and Chestatee boys teams' celebrations one bit. In fact the Vikings and War Eagles can take pride in knowing that they were the only two winners amongst area programs on Wednesday night, joining the Lakeview Academy and Jefferson girls -- who each claimed victories in Tuesday's first round games -- in their respective Sweet 16s.

East Hall's boys, who finished as last year's Class AAA runner-up, cruised to a 5-1 win over Stone Mountain in Rabbittown. The Region 7-AAA runner-up set up a road showdown with Region 1-AAA champ Crisp County in Cordele on May 3 in the next round.

Meanwhile, Chestatee's boys claimed a 1-0 road win over LaGrange in Class AAAA, giving the War Eagles their first postseason victory since 2013 -- they also beat LaGrange in that season. Chestatee moves on to face Richmond Academy in Augusta on May 3.

There are plenty more northeast Georgia programs vying to join East Hall and Chestatee (and Lakeview and Jefferson) in the second round, including four girls games scheduled for Thursday and four boys contests slated for Friday.
