DALLAS — North Georgia sophomore Steven Bower has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Pitcher of the Week, the association announced Thursday afternoon.
It is first-ever national honor for Bower and the first time a PBC player has received a national honor from the NCBWA this season.
Bower threw the first no-hitter in school history last Friday as he shut out Montevallo, 10-0. The lefty from Lawrenceville struck out 10 while only allowing three walks, completing the game with 107 pitches thrown, 67 for strikes. Bower's no-hitter was only the fifth in a PBC conference game and the first since 2005. Bower is currently third in the PBC with a 2.16 earned run average, eighth in strikeouts, and third in wins.
The Nighthawks will travel to the other side of Blood Mountain tomorrow, for the first of three games against Young Harris. First pitch for game one is set for 7 p.m.
