CLEVELAND — A truck painted to raise awareness of autism received one of the top awards at Saturday’s annual Camp Jackie Car Show in White County.
Casha Daniels’ family’s Hunker Down for Autism received the Kids’ Choice Award, a day before the ninth-annual World Autism Awareness Day. The award is voted on by Camp Jackie participants and is one of 20 awards presented.
Camp Jackie is a camp for children and adults ages 10 to 100 coping with varying developmental disabilities such as cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, attention deficit disorders, learning disorders, autism, brain injuries and/or other developmental delays.
The camp meets one weekend six months out of the year and two different weeks during the summer, according to Camp Director Amanda Bridges.
The wheelchair-accessible camp features a one-to-one counselor to camper ratio, allowing each counselor to focus on the needs of their camper.
The car show is a fundraiser to help with camp needs.
