Although some details remain unclear, the State Patrol has identified the driver responsible for a two car crash in front of the Lake Lanier Olympic Park early Thursday night that closed the road for medical helicopter services.

According to the Georgia State Patrol Post 6, the accident occurred on Clarkes Bridge Road around 6 P.M. when a vehicle driven by Gainesville resident Holly Carter, 23, collided with a van.

"A black GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling north on GA284 approaching the intersection with Parks Drive, and there was a Nissan Quest van traveling south on 284 approaching Parks Drive at the time. The driver of the pickup attempted to turn left in front of the van which ultimately resulted in the crash involving the two vehicles," said Trooper Eddie Smith.

All six of the individuals in the van were injured in the crash and taken for treatment.

"Five out of the six were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical and there was one child that was air-flown to Scottish Rite (Children's Healthcare of Atlanta)," said Smith.

GSP Sgt. Austin Allen said over the weekend that Carter was not taken to a medical center for injuries, and was cited by authorities with Failure to Yield While Turning Left.

Allen added Sunday morning that authorities had not been notified of any negative changes regarding the conditions of those injured in the crash, although their names and initial conditions have not been released.
