'Care' packages needed for Gainesville homeless count

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

When a homeless count is conducted in Gainesville next week, United Way hopes to have at least 200 "care" packages to hand out to some of those who are surveyed.

Ninth District Opportunity, in conjunction with the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development and the state Department of Community Affairs, will be conducting the survey Jan. 23-30.

United Way of Hall County is putting the "care" packages together and needs help from the public in doing so.  The list of needed items include:  $10 food gift cards, baby wipes, beef jerky, $10 drug store gift cards, hotel vouchers, travel-size soaps, and deodorants and shampoos.

Donations may be left at the United Way office in Gainesville at 627 Oak Street.
