OAKWOOD — The University of North Georgia women's cross country team gave a strong performance for their hometown crowd Saturday morning at the fourth annual UNG Invitational. The Nighthawks finished second in a field of 14, finishing seven runners in the Top 20.

Senior Brittany Truitt paced the Nighthawks with a fourth-place finish at 18:34, which was 21 seconds faster than her winning time in 2014, the last time the UNG Invite was ran at the 5K distance. Emma Brown crossed the line in seventh-place at 19:23 and Sarah Buckler's time of 19:40 was good enough for 10th place.

Jenna Tilton (19:42) and Caitlin Connell (19:44) just missed the list of Top 10 finishers, placing 11th and 12th, respectively.

SCAD Atlanta took home an impressive team victory with a 21-point lead over second-place UNG. The Bee's Emily Kearney smashed the UNG women's record by more than 55 seconds checking in at 17:59.9 for the individual championship. SCAD Savannah, Piedmont, and Reinhardt rounded out the top five in the team results.

North Georgia will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 1, traveling to the Yellow Hammer State to partake in the 11th Annual Jacksonville State Foothill Invitational. The race is slated for a 9:30 a.m., CDT.
