McKenzie Coan’s first-ever Paralympic medal was gold as she won the women’s 50-meter Paralympic freestyle swimming competition in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, in record time. Coan set a new Paralympic record in the event at 32.42 seconds.
She now focuses on the butterfly, the 400 meter freestyle and 100 meter freestyle events this week.
Coan is the daughter of Marc and Teresa Coan of Clarkesville. Her dad, Marc, practices internal medicine at Toccoa Clinic.
