Residents in Cumming object to plan for adults-only hotel

By Associated Press

Residents in Forsyth County are objecting to a developer's plans for an adults-only hotel that would be built near a Baptist church.

Antioch Baptist Church Pastor Travis Bridgeman tells WSB-TV (http://2wsb.tv/2cI6L5H) that he worries about the message it sends to the community.

The pastor says that when people come to the hotel, ``we know what's on their mind.''

Ethan Underwood, an attorney for Ohio-based hotelier Belamere Suites, says the business is an upscale establishment that hosts everything from marriage encounters to church groups.

The hotel's website states that its mission has been to create a place for a romantic retreat.

Neighbors gathered more than 2,000 petitions opposing the project. WSB reports that the land is already zoned for commercial projects, and it won't require approval from the Forsyth County Commission.

The proposed site for the hotel is on a 4.7-acre tract of land on Antioch Road near Cumming.
