SUMMERVILLE — This time it got to count for Dawson County.
The Tigers got two touchdown passes and two touchdown runs from junior quarterback Coey Watson and scored the first 30 points before settling for a 30-8 win over Chattooga Friday night in their season opener.
Dawson County (1-0) was leading its game last week before it was ruled no contest due to lightning and all stats were wiped out.
Watson scored on runs of 5 and 6 yards in the first quarter and added a 6-yard TD pass to Nick Murphy in the second quarter and a 22-yard scoring pass to Austin Young in the third quarter
Peyton Allen added a 38-yard field goal in the waning second of the first half.
Watson finished the game 17-of-27 for 231 yards passing and added another 74 yards rushing to lead the Tigers offense. Young had a big game with 114 yards receiving on seven catches.
While the offense was putting up big numbers and scored on five of its first six drives, the Tigers defense was stellar holding a Chattooga offense that piled up nearly 400 yards rushing in a win last week to just 210 yards on the ground and just 70 yards passing for the game.
Chattooga’s only score came in the third quarter when Isiah Foster scored on a 2-yard run, which was set up by his 88 yard run earlier in the drive.
Luke Martin had an interception for the Tigers.
