UPDATED: Gwinnett Police make contact with suspect, don't believe mall is in danger

Gwinnett Police are trying to determine whether or not to file charges after they identified and made contact with the 16-year-old boy that reportedly made a threat online to "shoot up" the Mall of Georgia Tuesday afternoon.

"At this point, our primary objective is to gain additional information for any potential criminal charges that may be made," said Police Cpl. Deon Washington. "At this point, he has not been taken in to custody, but we know exactly who he is, we know where he lives and again, we're working to solidify the information about what took place."

The threat, which was made in an online gaming chat room, indicated the shooting would occur at 3:00 p.m., Washington said.

The suspect allegedly referenced the number of people who would be shot, and referenced committing suicide after the shooting.

"We understand this is an alarming situation for the general public and due to the magnitude of those types of threats, we deployed both uniformed and tactical undercover resources within the Mall of Georgia for the majority of the day," said Washington.

"Being that we have made contact with the individual, we're starting to scale back our presence at the Mall of Georgia and we believe it is in absolutely no danger."
