City of Gainesville to host Rain Barrel Workshops

By AccessWDUN staff

The City of Gainesville has teamed up with Perdue Farms to offer two Rain Barrel Workshops just in time for summer.

Maggie Huie, Director of Perdue Operations in Gainesville, said they’re happy to be participating in such a good cause. At Perdue, we strive to be good stewards of the environment and to be part of our communities. Through this partnership with the City of Gainesville, we’re empowering residents to reclaim rain water and minimize run off. Gainesville is recognized as one of the greenest cities in America and we’re excited to join them in this initiative.”

In addition to information about how to install and care for the barrels, Suzanne Brosche, the co-owner of Art of Stone Gardening, will talk about sustainable gardening.

The workshops will be held on May 12 and June 14 from 5:30-6:30pm at the Flat Creek Water Reclamation Facility, 2641 Old Flowery Branch Road.

Participants will receive a free rain gauge and be able to purchase a 55-gallon rain barrel for $25. Proceeds from the rain barrels will be used by Keep Hall Beautiful to benefit its public education programs. The barrels will be cut and prepared for use prior to the workshop.

Space is limited. To register and reserve your rain barrel(s). call 770-532-7462. If you are unable to attend the workshop but are interested in rain barrels, accommodations can be made.
