Buford, Gainesville and Union County are marching on to the state quarterfinals after sweeping series on Wednesday. Jackson County joined them after winning its Game 3, but North Hall and Dawson County fell in their deciding Game 3s Thursday.

North Hall pushed No. 1 Locust Grove to the limit and a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning of the two teams' Game 3 but the Trojans could not hold on falling 7-3 to the Wildcats to lose their Class AAAA series 2-1 on the road. Meanwhile, Jackson County routed Appling County 14-1 in a deciding Game 3 of the Panthers' Class AAA series. And Dawson County fell 9-4 to Westside-Augusta in Game 3 of their Class AAA series.
The Red Elephants swept past LaGrange to notch their fifth straight quarterfinal berth (NOTE: Video highlights included) -- and they did so with the mix of grit and determination that is fast becoming the squad's trademark, winning 6-3 and 2-1 at Ivey-Watson. Gainesville will discover its next opponent on Thursday after Dalton and Evans split their doubleheader. Winder-Barrow also picked up the sweep in Class AAAAA, taking out Northgate 7-1 and 10-8.
Meanwhile, Buford got back to its explosive ways on Wednesday, bashing Bainbridge 15-0 and 16-2 to cruise into the Class AAAA quarterfinals (NOTE: Video highlights included). The Wolves will play host to Cartersville starting next Tuesday at Gerald McQuaig Field.
Union County also proved dominant in Class AA, fending off Bleckley County 4-2 in Game 1 before trashing the visitors 16-0 in Game 2. The Panthers will battle Lovett in Blairsville in the quarterfinals.
Elsewhere, Jefferson and North Forsyth were both swept from the postseason.
