Tennis: North Hall girls storm into state quarterfinals

By AccessWDUN Staff

ADEL — The North Hall girls tennis team kept marching through the postseason on Monday, dropping just one match while taking out Cook 4-1 in the Class AAAA second round.

The Lady Trojans claimed all of their victories in straight sets, including dominating performances at No. 2 and 3 singles and No. 2 doubles, as they stormed into the state quarterfinals.

North Hall will face Marist in the third round on the road, time to be determined -- a factor that has not derailed the third-seeded Lady Trojans so far after winning their first two playoff matches away from home.

North Hall dropped its No. 1 singles match on Monday, but stormed back with convincing victories at No. 2 and 3 singles. Christen Barnes strolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, while Lauren Davis prevailed 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

The Lady Trojans' No. 1 doubles team of Courtney Barnes/MaKenzie Bryant battled in the first set, winning in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-2), but dominated the second set, 6-0. And in No. 2 doubles Annalise Gregory/Sydney Patterson dominated 6-0, 6-0.

NOTES: The Flowery Branch boys and girls tennis teams, along with the Gainesville boys, were knocked out of the Class AAAAA bracket. The Lady Falcons suffered a 3-1 loss to Starr's Mill, while the Branch boys dropped a 4-0 decision to Columbus. The Red Elephants lost 5-0 to LaGrange. ... The Gainesville girls play host to McIntosh on Tuesday.
