A fire in a room at a Gainesville motel Wednesday night was quickly extinguished but not before some cabinets were damaged.
Gainesville Fire Department spokesman Keith Smith says the fire, which occurred about 6:30 at the Motel 6 on Monroe Drive, was out when firefighters arrived.
"It appears a burner was left on on the stove which started a fire that spread to some cabinets. The fire was extinguished with an extinguisher."
Smith said the room was occupied by one adult and one child but they were not injured and were "being moved to another room until repairs are made."
