A fire late Sunday morning near downtown Gainesville destroyed a camper, according to emergency officials.
Joshua Sheridan with the Gainesville Fire Department said crews were called to the scene near the intersection of Northside Drive and Academy Street just after 11:00 a.m. When they arrived, the camper was reportedly in flames between a home and a business.
The fire was quickly put out, but the camper was destroyed, and the surrounding structures suffered what Sheridan called "minor damage." He said the Gainesville Fire Marshal's Office has ruled the fire to be incidental after the owner said it started when he was testing the propane refrigerator inside the camper.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
