CONYERS — In a battle for first place in Region 8-AAAAA, the Gainesville girls soccer team showed Friday night there can be only one at the top.

The Class AAAAA sixth-ranked Lady Red Elephants took a dominating 5-0 win over Heritage, Conyers on the road. They have won seven straight away from City Park.

Gainesville (9-1, 6-0 Region 8-AAAAA) also has not allowed a goal in region play as Alondra Wedding stopped all 14 shots faced behind another solid defensive effort in front of her.

While the defense was clamping down on the Lady Patriots (7-4, 5-1) Alyssa Turner continued her assault on the opposition. She tallied three scores, giving her six straight games with at least three goals.

Breana Fair and Margaret Carpenter each had one goal for Gainesville. Taylor Buffington had two assists and Turner added an assist.

The Lady Red Elephants next will play host to Class AA No. 3 Wesleyan on Wednesday.
