A Duluth woman is facing serious charges after a wreck that killed two women and injured another in Baldwin Sunday.
Kathleen Susan Hamilton Steffens of Duluth is charged with driving under the influence, two counts of first-degree homicide by vehicle, serious injury by motor vehicle and failure to maintain lane.
That's according to Sgt. 1st Class Chad Johnson of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.
Johnson said Steffens' vehicle was traveling south on Ga. 365, traveled off the west shoulder of the highway and struck the rear of a Honda CRV that was parked off the west shoulder.
The resulting collision killed Teddye Sue Martin, 63, of Tyrone, who was standing in front of the parked vehicle after stopping when she became ill; and Elise Nicole Martin, 26, of Atlanta, said Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire.
Another passenger, Molly Martin, 25, of Tyrone was seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team B is performing an independent investigation.
