An Elbert County woman is charged in a three-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Hartwell woman and seriously injured three other people Sunday afternoon.
Kieu Thi Thanh Le, 38, of Dewy Rose is charged with second-degree vehicular homicide (a misdemeanor), serious injury by vehicle, failure to obey stop sign, and failure to apply for a new license within 60 days of a change of name or change of address, Elbert County arrest reports show.
Le is charged in the death of Nellie Sadler, 74, of Hartwell.
Sgt. 1st Class Al Whitworth of Georgia State Patrol Post 52 in Hartwell on Monday provided details of the crash.
Le, who was driving a 2010 Toyota Sienna van, was attempting to cross Ga. 77 from Hunt Road to Maple Springs Road and pulled into the path of a 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada driven by Sue Owen, 57, of Hartwell.
The impact sent the Bravada into the driver's door of a 1996 Geo Metro driven by Sadler, which was stopped at a stop sign on Maple Springs Road, Whitworth said. That impact resulted in the death of Sadler at the scene and seriously injured her three passengers, whose names still were not available Monday.
Owen was transported to Elbert Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Whitworth said.
One of those passengers was airlifted from the scene.
The wreck happened about 1 p.m.
