Banks County names Nichols as fire chief

HOMER -- The Banks County Commission has named Steve Nichols as the county's new fire chief. 

The decision came as a unanimous vote during a called meeting Thursday morning. 

Nichols, who has been serving as Jackson County Emergency Services director, will be on the job in Banks County on Jan. 2.

As fire chief, Nichols will oversee fire, emergency medical services and rescue in Banks County.
