Missing Hall County woman found dead; missing Hall County man found, charged with killing her

A Hall County man is in the Lumpkin County jail, charged with murder and aggravated assault, after a Hall County woman who was also missing was found dead in Lumpkin County.

John Harol Whitfield, 52, and Wanda Kay McDougald, 41, had both been reported missing from Whitfield's north Hall County residence since Wednesday, according to Hall County Sheriff's Deputy Stephen Wilbanks.

"On Saturday afternoon, Hall County Sheriff's Deputies located Mr. Whitfield at a residence in the northern part of the county, and shortly after midnight this morning, Ms. McDougald's body was found off of a roadside in Lumpkin County," Wilbanks said.

Wilbanks said he was not sure of the relationship between the two.

"The case is, of course, still under investigation. But Mr. Whitfield is currently booked into the Lumpkin County jail. He's charged with aggravated assault and murder in relation to the case," Wilbanks said.

No further details were released. Wilbanks said any new information would come from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
