Workers re-opened Ga. 316 at about 12:40 p.m. Monday afternoon following the hours-long cleanup of a hazardous material situation.
Barrow County Emergency Services Captain Scott Dakin said the initial call about the three-vehicle crash at Kilcrease Road came around 6:50 a.m. One of the vehicles was a pickup truck used for pool cleaning. Dakin said it was carrying chemicals.
"We had different acids and chlorines, and they're all mixed together, creating a hazardous material incident."
At 8:00 a.m., Dakin said the incident was expected to keep the road closed for several hours.
"We transported one person as a result of the accident, and we also transported one person as a result of the Hazmat spill."
He said the victim transported because of the spill had inhaled some of the chemical vapors, but was expected to be ok. The victim injured in the actual crash suffered what Dakin said he understood to be minor injuries.
