DAHLONEGA — Juan Rivas scored a career-high 30 points and Tanner Plemmons hit six three-pointers, but Augusta University held on late as the Jaguars defeated North Georgia 86-85 Thursday night in Peach Belt Conferene action in UNG's Memorial Hall.
North Georgia led 83-74 with 5:06 left before Augusta finished the game on a 12-2 run capped off by Tommy Williams's layup to put the Jaguars up one with 26 seconds to play.
North Georgia falls to 4-10 overall and 2-3 in Peach Belt Conference play. Augusta improves to 7-5 and 3-2 in PBC play.
Rivas shot 11-of-18 from the field on his way to 30 points. He recorded a double-double by adding 12 rebounds. Rivas netted his previous career high of 16 points against Flagler on Dec. 17.
Plemmons finished with 19 points, and T.J. Williams added 10 points for North Georgia.
Five Jaguars finished in double figures led by Tommy Williams with a double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Offensively, North Georgia shot 51.7% (31-60) from the field. The Nighthawks made 12 three-pointers, the second-highest total this season.
The Nighthawks take on Clayton State in a PBC West matchup in Memorial Hall with a tip time slated for 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
