SUWANEE – Suwanee City Council unanimously voted Tuesday to adopt a new Public Art Master Plan for the city.
A public art program has been a part of Suwanee for seven years, but the master plan focuses on making the public art program bigger and bolder over the next 10 years, acording to council members.
“The community has responded very positively to the art program that we have in the city, said Councilman Dick Goodman. "That’s why we’re taking it to the next step.”
Right now, Suwanee has 17 pieces of art on display in public places around the city.
Suwanee officials hired Todd Bressi and Meredith McKinley to help develop the 10-year art plan. Bressi is an independent art consultant from Philadelphia and McKinley is a public art planning and programming professional from St. Louis.
Some possible locations for additional public art include the DeLay Gateway Connection, which includes the library area, the railroad tunnel, the Greenway and other areas.
Funding for the art is one of the biggest challenges in the plan, and city officials will begin looking at private donations and other fundraising efforts to continue the art displays in Suwanee.
