AUGUSTA — University of North Georgia senior Daniel Bowlt has been named the Peach Belt Conference AstroTurf Defender of the Week the league office announced Monday. The UNG captain scored the game-winning goal in Thursday's 2-1 win against Tampa.
The Newcastle, England native came through with a huge penalty kick late in the first half of the Tampa game, scoring what ended up being the game-winning goal. That helped lift the Nighthawks to their first home opening win since 2011.
Bowlt anchored a North Georgia back line that only allowed one goal per game last week.
The Nighthawks hit the road this week with a non-conference match at Alabama-Huntsville on Thursday before kicking off league play Saturday evening at Young Harris.
