Forsyth Co. adopts rollback millage rates reflecting half-mill increase

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

CUMMING - The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners has adopted the millage rates that will fund the county’s 2016 budget which will result in an increase in the tax rate of one-half mill.

The board voted to adopt the rollback Maintenance and Operations millage rate of 4.642 mills, which is lower than the proposed rate that had been advertised. The rollback rate offsets increased values from reassessments, and will produce the same Maintenance and Operations taxes as last year, plus growth from new construction.

The board also voted to maintain the Fire millage rate at 1.975 mills and to adopt the Bond rate at 1.419 mills. The 0.55 mills increase in the Bond rate reflects the debt service requirements for the Forsyth County Transportation Bond approved by county voters in November 2014 to fund a variety of transportation projects.

The total county millage rate is 8.036.

Forsyth County staff, Finance Committee and Board of Commissioners will continue preparing the county’s preliminary 2016 budget, which is slated for adoption in November.
