BRASELTON — Forty-eight volunteers donned old clothes and waders and ventured into streams andrivers for the semi-annual Rivers Alive cleanup day recently.
The collection results included 66 bags of trash, 7 tires - 1,320 pounds of garbage including sports balls lost down storm drains.
“We are so grateful for our volunteers and business sponsors who make for an enjoyable, productiveouting,” says Yvette Wise, Environmental Coordinator for Braselton. “Every year is different in terms of collections, but each year the public awareness level is raised.”
The mission of Rivers Alive is to create awareness of and hands-on involvement to preserve Georgia’s waterways and water resources. Roy and Tina McHaney and Barrow County’s stormwater coordinator, Matt Treeter, team with Wise to organize and supervise the event.
Sponsors of this year’s program included Papa John’s, Mayfield Dairy, Whole Foods, Keep JacksonBeautiful, Athens Stonecasting, Joe Goodman, Wayne Woodall and the Town of Braselton.
