MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) Police in suburban Atlanta say an officer who fatally shot a man while serving a warrant has returned to work.
Smyrna Police spokesman Chris Graeff told the Marietta Daily Journal on Friday that Sgt. Kenneth Owens is working in an administrative role during the investigation into the shooting of 23-year-old Nicholas Thomas on March 25 at a Goodyear store.
Authorities have said Thomas drove a Maserati toward officers as they tried to serve him a warrant for a parole violation.
Owens was placed on administrative leave afterward and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is probing the shooting.
Graeff says the department will launch an internal investigation after the GBI's review is complete.
