GAINESVILLE -- The Chestatee girls soccer team tuned up for next week’s state playoffs with 5-2 victory over Athens Academy Tuesday at War Eagles Stadium.
Chestatee (12-5) dominated the match early but could not net a goal against the Lady Spartans (10-2-0). Athens Academy eventually notched the first goal in the 26th minute.
The Lady War Eagles answered back ten minutes later when Hope Baxter broke free off a pass from Sadie Foote to tie game at 1-1. Baxter added her second goal of the game with 7:16 remaining in the first half for a 2-1 halftime lead.
Four minutes into the second half, the War Eagles struck again. Alyssa Yarck sent a well played cross from the right side of the penalty area and Sadie Foote finished it off to make it 3-1. The Lady Spartans countered with their second goal in the 28th minute to cut the lead to 3-2.
One minute later, Baxter completed the hat trick denied the momentum change answering with her third goal of the night and claiming the hat-trick. Foote scored her second goal in the 22nd minute to seal the win for Chestatee.
Chestatee next will travel to Franklin County on Wednesday in the final regular season game.
