Flowery Branch family speaks up about origin of Jim Crow Road

FLOWERY BRANCH - The family of a man a controversial road is named after in Flowery Branch is speaking out after some outcry over the name of the road.

Randy Crow told CBS 46 his grandfather, Jim Crow, is not the same Jim Crow relating to segreation laws or the character.

"Separate the fact between the Jim Crow laws and my grandfather, Jim Crow. They were totally different," Randy Crow said to CBS 46. He said his grandfather, who was born Glenn C. Crow, was often called Jim or Jimmy.

Randy Crow told the television station his grandfather was instrumental in getting the road paved and owned most of the property on the road at one time. He said that's why the Hall County Commission named the road after him.

"If you hadn't lived here all your life, you wouldn't know the whole history. You'd hear what's been handed down to you and so forth."

Despite the controversy and a push to rename the road, the Hall County Commission has not agreed to consider a name change.
