'Extreme delays' expected most of week on downtown Gainesville street

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

GAINESVILLE - Road work is planned again this week on a busy downtown Gainesville thoroughfare.

Th work involves the stretch of Jesse Jewell Parkway from Academy Street to John Morrow Parkway and, like last week, involves patching.  Last week's project involved patching at Jesse Jewell and E.E. Butler parkways.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) says this week's work, which is expected to cause "extreme delays," will be finished by Thursday evening.

GDOT says crews will begin by removing damaged asphalt, replacing damaged asphalt then resurfacing the entire corridor it with new asphalt. The outside westbound lane will be closed as the work, which will take place today, tomorrow and Thursday from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., begins.
