GAINESVILLE - Hall County Administrator Randy Knighton announced Friday that Zach Propes has been hired as the county's new Director of Financial Services.

Propes comes to Hall County Government from Bates Carter, a Gainesville-based accounting firm, where he has served as both Senior Accountant and Government Audit Project Supervisor. He has experience in government audits, commercial audits, 990 tax returns (not-for-profit) and individual tax returns.

"Zach's experience and guidance will enhance the capabilities of the strong finance team currently in place, and he will be a tremendous asset to the entire organization," Knighton said. "Creating a secure budget and sound financial future is a primary concern for the county, and we are in a better position to do that with Zach on board."

Propes received a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from North Georgia College and State University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Georgia Southern University.

"I look forward to working with Hall County's Financial Services staff to provide the highest possible level of responsible stewardship to the citizens of Hall County," said Propes.

Propes is active in a number of different non-profit organizations, including Junior Achievement of Northeast Georgia, The Medical Center Foundation and United Way of Hall County.  He and his wife Katie live in Gainesville and attend Gainesville First United Methodist Church.

Propes will begin his duties with the County on Oct. 30.   He succeeds Vickie Neikirk, who resigned in June after being on the job since November 2011.
