GAINESVILLE - Technicians from the North American Fire Equipment Company are making repairs to a fire truck at the Gainesville Fire Department this week.
"A few months before our trucks were schedule to be inspected, some of our apparatus operators noticed some possibly worn spots on the cables of our aerial platform, known as Tower 21" said Fire Division Chief Keith Smith.

"Based on their concerns, and the recent accident with Hall County Fire Services, Tower 21 was removed from service and a reserve truck was used in its place."
Smith said the truck was deemed safe, but the technicians are replacing the cables, pulleys and wear pads for a total of $15,000. The technicians returned this week to make the repairs.
