GAINESVILLE - Leland Taylor, who was the Valedictorian of North Hall High School, Class of 2008, was offered and has accepted the NIH Cambridge Scholarship. He will be working directly under Dr. Francis Collins and the top geneticist in Europe, Dr. Ewan Birney, in pursuit of his PHD in genetics and bioinformatics. <br />

After Taylor graduated Cum Laude, with highest honors in Computational Biology from Davidson, he was invited to interview with Dr. Francis Collins, the director of the National Institute of Health (NIH). <br />

Dr. Collins offered him a fellowship in his genomics lab at NIH in Bethesda, Maryland, and he has been there since last summer. <br />

Dr. Collins has served as head of the Human Genome project, a global collaboration of scientists who mapped the human genome.
