More hotter-than-usual weather arriving with the new month

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - The arrival of August is bringing with it more hotter-than-normal temperatures in Georgia.

The forecast calls for high temperatures in the mid-90s through the week in metro Atlanta. Even hotter weather is expected elsewhere in the state, with temperatures ranging up to about 100 degrees. Heat indexes in many places are also expected to reach the triple-digits. Even in the mountain region, highs are forecast to reach the low 90s.

There's a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms all week.

The air quality index for Atlanta and as far north as Gainesville Monday is moderate.

During July, there were only three days on which the temperature was below normal in Gainesville, according to readings at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport. The rest of the month they were anywhere from 4-10 degrees above average each day.
