Grants approved for homeless, domestic violence programs

ATLANTA - State grants totaling $53,400 have been awarded non-profits in Habersham County and Hartwell to help the homeless and domestic abuse victims in those areas.

State Sen. Jim Butterworth (R-Demorest) says the money has been earmarked to the Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence, Inc. in Hartwell, which will receive $5,000; the Georgia Mountains Women's Center, also known as Circle of Hope, in Cornelia, which is getting $25,400; and, the Habersham Homeless Ministries Inc. in Habersham County, which has been allocated $23, 000.

Sen. Butterworth said the funds are being made available through the state Department of Consumer Affairs.
