ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reports that unemployment rates rose throughout the state in June.
The figures are not seasonally adjusted, and Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that layoffs among non-contract school employees and the addition of students to the labor force drove unemployment figures higher.
The rate in Hall County/Metro Gainesville increased from 7.9 percent to 9 percent. In the 13-county Georgia Mountains Region, which includes Hall County/Metro Gainesville, the rate was up by .9 percent to 9.3.
Metro Atlanta's unemployment rate rose to 10.5 percent in June, up from 9.7 percent in May. It was 10.3 percent in June 2010.
Atlanta had a net loss of 4,600 jobs.
In Athens, the rate rose to 8.4 percent from 7.2 percent in May. It was 8 percent a year earlier.
Macon's rate rose from 10 percent in May to 10.6 percent in June. It was 10.5 percent in June 2010.
The lowest rate in Georgia was 8 percent in Warner Robins.
