G-Braves offense still ice cold in 4-0 loss to IronPigs

LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Gwinnett Braves dropped the final game of, and consequently, the series to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs with a 4-0 loss on Thursday at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville.

Gwinnett's offense remained ice cold, while the IronPigs capitalized on early runs off of the hometown pitching on the evening. The G-Braves (26-27) dropped under the .500 mark for the first time since the season's third game but remained in second place in the International League South division at 4.5 games behind Durham with the loss (figure at press time). The IronPigs (33-20) remained in first place in the IL North.

Both teams' pitching cruised through three innings until IronPigs first baseman Jeff Larish, who has torched the G-Braves in the series, hit a solo homer off starter Erik Cordier in the fourth for all the runs Lehigh Valley would need.

Cordier (0-1) went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with a walk and 2 strikeouts to suffer a defeat in his first start at Coolray Field.

At the plate, Gwinnett notched just three hits in the game, as only first baseman Mauro Gomez, catcher J.C. Boscan and shortstop Brandon Hicks managed singles.

The G-Braves open the second four game series in the current eight game homestand, going against the Buffalo Bisons in game one on Friday night at Coolray Field at 7:05 p.m. Gwinnett will throw RHP Todd Redmond (3-5, 2.87) against Buffalo RHP D.J. Carrasco (1-3, 4.94). The game can be heard on WDUN 550 AM and 102.9 FM.
